Why do we Behave the way we Behave?

The nature- nurture is not a new topic but it is a debate that has been a part of behavioural psychology from ages. There are two different opinions.

Personality plays an important role in our everyday life. The aspects that comes under this category are:

• Thinking processes

• Behaviour

• Basic Nature

• Reacting to a particular aspect

The question that often strikes the mind is why do we behave the way we behave?

Two factors that drive the behaviour are:

The behaviour of a person is driven by the two major factors namely: Nature and Nurture.

Nature

Nature can be defined as the biological factors of a human being. Biological factors are the factors like:

  • Genes: These are the Functional aspect of heredity. Gene is formed by the DNA. Genes play a great role in making what a person is.
  • Heredity: It can be understood as the passage of traits from parents to an offspring. The traits that are the same in a child as the parents can be known as heredity.

Nurture

Nurture can be defined as an individual’s environmental factors. Two important factors of nurture are:

  • Society Standard: The type of society a person is part of describes his or her society standard.
  • Economic Stability: Financial stability makes a person aware of the self. It helps people lead better quality lives.

The Nature- Nurture Quality

The nature- nurture is not a new topic but it is a debate that has been a part of behavioural psychology from ages. There are two different opinions. Some psychologists say that nature makes the person’s thinking patterns. On the other hand, it is said that nurture has a significant effect on human behaviour.

A person who is very family centric, has the same skill set as parents and siblings, Reacts like their parents can be said to have a higher effect of nature. The people held by nature are the result of genetics and heredity.

An individual whose thinking aspects, skill sets, and interests do not match with the people of the family can be identified for having a high impact of nurture. These people often behave  from the experience of the environment.

Nature-Nurture Interplay

The truth about the behaviour is that alone neither nature nor nurture can be responsible for an individual’s behaviour.

The nature nurture interplay explains how the biological factors and environmental factors make the person whoever he or she is.

Some may have higher nature control whereas others may be controlled by nurture but some factors are necessary to shape the behaviour and personality of a person.
