Following Protests, thousands of Nepalese queue to seek Jobs in Odisha

Media Reports state that many of the Nepal citizens were quietly standing in queue outside the Odisha’s Special Armed Police 2nd Battalion headquarters in the hope of jobs.

As from the past few days, Kathmandu is in flames, thousands of Nepalese have arrived in India to seek government jobs. As per the sources, around 3000 people from Nepal were seen on Wednesday in Odisha’s Jharsugudu, an Indian town which is almost 900km away from Nepal.

Media Reports state that many of the Nepal citizens were quietly standing in queue outside the Odisha’s Special Armed Police 2nd Battalion headquarters in the hope of jobs. There were 135 posts advertised in which the vacancies were only open for Nepali girls and India Gurkhas.

While media persons questioned gathered Nepali citizens, they expressed their notions about the country. One of the individuals mentioned that if there will be no job, there will be no income, “we are bound to come.”

Continuing with his words, he said, there is no other option with them. Considering the conditions of Nepal, they had to arrive in India to earn their living.

While another citizen casted light on the long going issues of unemployment and corruption in their country. He added that the young generation is migrating abroad so they can work there and earn their living. “The Government should have paid attention, but they didn’t pay, ” he said.

Not just this, Nepalese while expressing their disappointment for their nation are as well revealing that corruption and unemployment has now hit all the boundaries. They mention that the ones who have money and power only get the jobs. And, the children of leaders are already studying abroad.

Additionally, it is very accessible to Nepalese to enter India in any kind of situation.

How easy is it for Nepalese to enter India?

For Nepal, India has an open border policy which states that the citizens can travel to both the nations for tourism or personal visits. This is due to the Indo-Nepal treaty of Friendship.

Notably, Nepalese do not require any passport or visa to enter India. There is only one requirement for them that they must carry a valid photo identification document. They must have any one from the following documents:

  • Passport,
  • Identification Certificate or
  • Voter ID issued by Election Commission of Nepal

India and Nepal as Neighbouring Countries

India and Nepal are the neighbouring countries. Nepal is located in South Asia and it borders India from three directions : South, East and West. Through borders, Nepal is 1751 Kilometers away from India.

While analysing the major proximity points, Bihar’s Raxaul and Sonauli’s Uttar Pradesh are the closest Indian cities to Nepal. And, there are five states that border Nepal, these include Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and Sikkim.
