After promising a prize of 30,000 baht (about Rs 81,000) to anyone who slaps his married son’s mistress at least ten times, a Thai business personality has caused controversy.

According to the South China Morning Post, Arnon Rodthong, 65, who owns the biggest durian orchard and warehouse in the Chumphon province of Thailand, made a Facebook offer to seek justice for his daughter-in-law.

The message read: “To anyone in Lang Suan district, I would pay 30,000 baht to anyone who smacks my son’s mistress. You have to give her at least ten slaps. Come to me for payment after the job is finished.

According to reports, Chai, Rodthong’s son, abandoned his wife and child for On, a woman who had dated a young male relative who was possibly Rodthong’s nephew or grandchild. She began working as an accountant for the family’s durian business, dated Rodthong’s grandson, and advanced in her career before following Chai. It has been stated that Rodthong’s son disregarded his duties and used a revolver to threaten his wife, insisting that she leave on her own volition.

As per the Thailand’s national law code (Thai Penal Code), the assaults that include hitting, slapping or kicking hold the penalties of up to 40,000 baht, two year imprisonment or both. Roadthong reportedly mentioned that he wants to defend his family, will face all the legal aspects for the post in case it violates any law.

To prove that his award was real, Rodthong later showed a stack of one million baht in cash in a media interview. One comment said, “Let me pull up there, easy money.” Many internet viewers joked that they would like to accept the offer.

He then deleted the message, citing concerns about violence, which then caused controversy. “Many people I respect have urged me not to use violence to resolve this matter or set a bad example for the public, so I’ve decided to cancel it,” he said.

Instead, he declared that he would reclaim assets he had placed in his son’s name and was severing his relationship with him. “Those assets will be recovered by my attorney and given to my granddaughter, Chai’s daughter. “I let him go and forgive him,” he continued.
