ISRO Launches CMS-03, India’s Heaviest Communication Satellite Yet

It was launched from the second launch pad of Satish Dhawan Space Station in Sriharikota from Andhra Pradesh at 5:26 PM.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) launched CMS-03, it’s heaviest communication satellite to date, on Sunday, a vital step towards indigenously led satellite capabilities and maritime security for India.

The satellite is indigenously developed and is India’s heaviest communication satellite to date, having a weight of around 4,400 kg. It was launched from the second launch pad of Satish Dhawan Space Station in Sriharikota from Andhra Pradesh at 5:26 PM.

The satellite will improve space-based communications and maritime domain awareness capabilities of the Navy, utilizing indigenously developed state-of-the-art components specifically developed for the Indian Navy’s operational demands.

“The Indian Navy stated that this satellite is the heaviest communication satellite from India to date, weighing over 4,400 kg and featuring numerous indigenous cutting-edge components created to fulfill the operational needs of the Indian Navy.”

CMS-03 is a multi-band communication satellite designed to offer services across a vast oceanic area, including the Indian subcontinent, as stated by ISRO.

The well-known LVM3 launch vehicle will carry the satellite, which successfully brought India to the lunar South Pole during the Chandrayaan-3 mission. This will mark the fifth operational flight of the vehicle.

“CMS-03, with a weight of approximately 4400kg, will be the heaviest communication satellite launched from Indian soil to Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO).
