The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) recaptured power in Bihar after the ruling coalition led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar decimated the opposition Mahagathbandhan in the State Assembly elections by an overwhelming margin a mandate for the people of Bihar on Friday (November 14, 2025). The NDA received a total vote share of 46.7%, against the INDIA bloc’s 37.5%.
As reported in the most recent figures from the Election Commission of India, the NDA achieved a three-fourths majority, winning 202 of the 243 Assembly seats ((BJP 89, JD(U) 85, LJP (RV) 19, HAM (S) 5, and RLM 4 seats) while the Mahagathbandhan, while almost fully failing, was able to obtain 35 seats (RJD 25, INC 6, CPI(ML)(L) 2, CPI(M) 2, IIP 1) and the AIMIM led by Owaisi got five seats. Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj could not obtain any points in its first election contest.
On the results, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi noted that they are “truly surprising,” and said, “we could not have achieved victory in an unfair election from the very start.” He added that the INDIA coalition will conduct a thoughtful review of the election results and work on protecting democracy further.
