Leader Kanchanpreet Kaur Arrested, SAD Calls Move Politically Motivated

Sources indicated that police modified an FIR, incorporating stricter sections under Organized Crime laws, allowing for arrests without prior notification.

The Tarn Taran police took Kanchanpreet Kaur, who is the daughter of Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa (the SAD candidate for the Tarn Taran by-election), into custody at the Majitha police station in Amritsar Rural. She had obtained anticipatory bail and was present to participate in the investigations.

Senior SAD officials criticized the arrest, labeling it as “unlawful” and “driven by political motives.”

Sources indicated that police modified an FIR, incorporating stricter sections under Organized Crime laws, allowing for arrests without prior notification. SAD leader Daljit Singh Cheema stated, “SAD firmly denounces the unlawful and vindictive arrest of Kanchanpreet Kaur.”

The governing AAP administration has exceeded all boundaries of vindictive politics.

Cheema stated that Kanchanpreet obtained bail in all previous FIRs and presented himself to the police as a law-abiding citizen. “The Jhabal police, rather than adhering to due process, indiscriminately incorporated an additional non-bailable charge, breaching constitutional protections,” he stated.

“By focusing on a young female leader with false accusations, the government has demonstrated a lack of respect for the daughters of Punjab and the law,” he continued, urging democratic and women’s groups to denounce the “abuse of power.”

SAD leaders accused the AAP government of ignoring the Model Code of Conduct, Section 28A of the RP Act, and the powers of the Election Commission (EC). EC acknowledged previous arrests and mandated action against Tarn Taran police personnel.

SAD chief spokesperson Arshdeep Singh Kaler claimed that the Tarn Taran police were once more attempting to instill a climate of fear before the Zila Parishad and Block Samiti elections.

He stated that Kanchanpreet was detained due to being wrongly implicated in an old case.

“Having obtained bail in all prior cases, she attended the investigation today as required by law.” “We will firmly resist this excessive enforcement by the police,” he stated.

Another senior Akali figure, Virsa Singh Valtoha, also described the arrest as “politically motivated” and founded on “manufactured cases.”

Amritsar Rural SSP Maninder Singh had earlier been suspended in the matter, charged with failure to act against gangsterism.
