According to the new guidelines, sharing dance, bhangra, or entertainment videos/reels on social media is completely forbidden, particularly while in uniform.

The Punjab Police have released stringent new directives following an increase in social media footage featuring police officers engaging in dance, bhangra, and entertainment activities while dressed in uniform. The department stated that these actions harm the force’s reputation and will not be accepted moving forward.
The DGP’s office has instructed all Range IGs, DIGs, Police Commissioners, and District SSPs to promptly implement disciplinary measures against anyone who breaches the rules.
The State Cyber Crime Wing has been designated as the central authority to oversee questionable social media actions. The wing will prepare regular reports and present them to the DGP during review meetings.
According to officials, violations made by officers can severely affect their future promotions and assignments since it will directly show up in their Officer’s Annual Confidential Report (ACR).
This could be due to a number of incidents involving Punjab Police personnel in recent times. In one instance, a female constable was arrested for drug trafficking after becoming an internet sensation when she posted a reel of herself in a uniform.
In Mohali, heroin was found during a car wash event associated with another viral video. These incidents allegedly prompted the department to enforce stringent measures to protect its image.
According to the new guidelines, sharing dance, bhangra, or entertainment videos/reels on social media is completely forbidden, particularly while in uniform. Posting official weapons on any social media platform is strictly prohibited. It is prohibited to create reels or photos with official vehicles or equipment.
Any image or footage featuring criminals or gang members will lead to severe consequences. Uploading any video while in uniform is not allowed, irrespective of the content type. Disclosing sensitive or official information online is prohibited. Any action that harms the department’s reputation will lead to disciplinary measures.
