Major controversy erupted Tuesday morning in Patiala’s Bansa Wala Bazaar. This relates to the shooting of Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh’s upcoming film.

Shop owners of the local markets reportedly claim that the market was completely locked without any prior notice. Due to this, they erupted on the police and crew members. Not only this, even the signboards of their shops were changed which led to much disruption.

The shop owners allege that Kotwali Police at around 9:30 am in the morning barricaded the area and did not allow them to open their shops. There was a complete shut down of the market, and there was no access for the customers to enter.

They claimed that the market is privately owned, but nobody asked for their consent before starting the filming. They asserted that abruptly closing the market resulted in financial losses for them, while the administration disregarded their worries.

As per the reports, the major reason for the protest was the replacement of shop signboards. They added that the film team-

  • Either removed or hid the original boards identifying the shops
  • The new boards were replaced with the original ones which were having Urdu text as per the need of film shoot.
  • Changed the look of stores without permission

According to reports, when the police were asked about the filming of the movie, they explained that the police would remove the police barricades after completion of the filming.

As well as the barricades being used as movie props, shop owners raised concerns about the climbing on their rooftops without their approval and the safety of such actions. In the confusion surrounding these issues, Diljit Dosanjh completed his filming and left the area.

Diljit is shooting his new movie in many historical sites and locations around the city of Patiala. Most recently, a number of scenes were filmed at Qila Mubarak, which is an historical building. The official movie title has not yet been made public.
