Speaking to media persons after a worker meeting ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s rally in Moga district, Jakhar highlighted the state’s existing debt burden.

Following the release of Punjab’s Budget 2026, Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar on Sunday slammed AAP, called the state budget misleading. He questioned that how the government would arrange funds to fulfill its promise of providing Rs 1000 per month to women.
BJP Jakhar reacting to Finance Minister Cheema’s description of budget as one that fulfils government guarantees, added that “This is not a budget that fulfills guarantees. It is a budget that uproots the roots of Punjab.”
Speaking to media persons after a worker meeting ahead of Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s rally in Moga district, Jakhar highlighted the state’s existing debt burden.
“The government is talking about giving Rs 1,000 per month to women, but where will the money come from?” asked BJP Jakhar.
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Badal termed the Punjab budget a “misleading exercise,” claiming that the AAP Govt. was relying on loans and sale of government properties to fund its promise of providing Rs 1,000 per month to women.
Following his speech at the ‘Punjab Bachao Rally’ arranged by ex-minister Janmeja Singh Sekhon in Maur, Bathinda. Sukhbir claimed to reporters that the state government had borrowed Rs 52,000 crore in this financial year alone.
“Currently, they claim to provide Rs 1,000 each month to women. They are disposing of state assets and additionally securing loans. They are attempting to deceive women,” he stated.
Sukhbir stated that if the government truly aimed to offer the monthly support, it ought to have executed the program for the entire five years of its term. He urged women to accept the money but “show the government what’s what” in the approaching elections.
Former minister Bikram Singh Majithia also condemned the budget, calling it a “betrayal” of the Punjab population.
