On March 11, deceased’s parents got a call from Russia informing them that Samarjeet had lost his life in the conflict while serving in the Russian Army.

A 22 year old man from Ludhiana, deceived into battling for Russia, returned home in a coffin. Samarjeet Singh, according to his family, traveled to Russia to pursue a medical career but found himself on the frontlines.
According to the family, Samarjeet was compelled to list in the Russian Army under the guise of aiding a group of doctors. Nevertheless, he was dispatched to the combat area between Russia and Ukraine, where he lost his life in the assault.
Upon hearing about their son’s demise, grief gripped the family. What makes it more tragic is that the family had been tormented for the last several months over whether their son was alive or deceased. On March 11, they got a call from Russia informing them that Samarjeet had lost his life in the conflict while serving in the Russian Army.
Crying father Charanjit Singh shared that his son traveled to Russia for higher education in July 2025 after completing a diploma in X-ray technology.
“I didn’t want my son to go to Russia for further studies, but he was adamant. My son knew I had limited financial resources to fund his studies in India, so he decided to go abroad,” said deceased’s father.
“Before departing, Samarjeet assured me he would comeback to India once he became a doctor, but I never thought my son would come home in a coffin,” stated the father of the deceased, who operates a small grocery store.
Singh mentioned that within a couple of months, his son was compelled to enlist in the Russian Army under the guise that it would enhance his professional experience, and he would not be deployed to the front lines but would solely support the doctors in the army.
Singh disclosed that Samarjeet contacted the family for the last time on September 9, 2025, although the video call was unclear; it appeared he could have been calling from the battlefield. Since that time, Samarjeet has not reached out to the family in India.
“We contacted leaders from every political party at both state and national levels to request assistance in locating our child, yet no one offered support.”
“Singh added that it was only on March 11 that we got a call from Russia informing us that Samarjeet had died while fighting for the Army there, and we needed to pick up his body from Delhi airport.”
He also asserted that the remains of Samarjeet were discovered in fragments within the coffin, alongside an Army uniform that bore his (son’s) name plate. The death certificate of Samarjeet states the date as September 10, indicating he passed away a day after his final call to the family.
