Trump announces 5-Day “Pause” on Iran Strikes to facilitate Peace Talks

Explosions have been reported across the Iranian capital as Israeli forces continue to target government and military installations, seemingly undeterred by the U.S. diplomatic pause.

In a significant shift in the Middle East conflict, U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a five-day pause on strikes against Iranian energy infrastructure, claiming that high-level negotiations between Washington and Tehran are finally underway.

The Five-Day Ceasefire

Speaking on the current state of the war, President Trump claimed that U.S. and Iranian officials have spent the last two days discussing a potential peace agreement. The President has directed the Department of Defense to halt all planned attacks on Iranian power plants and energy grids for the next five days.

However, the President issued a stern warning that this pause is strictly conditional. “This decision depends entirely on the outcome of the talks,” the report noted, adding that military action remains on the table if negotiations fail.

Iran’s Sharp Denial

Despite Trump’s claims of diplomatic progress, Tehran has offered a starkly different narrative. Iranian state media dismissed the President’s announcement, suggesting he is “backing down” after his previous 48-hour ultimatum to open the Strait of Hormuz expired.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry explicitly denied that any direct talks are taking place. Officials claimed that Trump is making these “fictitious” claims of diplomacy in an attempt to stabilize global energy prices.

Tehran’s Demands for Peace

While denying direct talks with the U.S., Iranian officials outlined six strict conditions required to end the current hostilities:

  • Guarantees that no future wars will be initiated against Iran.
  • Withdrawal of U.S. military bases from the region.
  • Compensation for damages sustained by Iran during the conflict.
  • An End to all ongoing regional wars.
  • New Regulations for the Strait of Hormuz.
  • Legal Action against media entities deemed “anti-Iranian.”

Israel Escalates Strikes on Tehran

As Washington signals a pause, Israel has moved in the opposite direction. Moments after Trump’s announcement, the Israeli military confirmed it had launched fresh strikes targeting the “heart of the Iranian regime” in Tehran.
