From Jalandhar to Bollywood: Artists shine in ‘Dhurandhar’

Although narrative and visuals are receiving praise, one element that is distinctly prominent is the movie’s song where Jalandhar rocks.

The movie ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ featuring Ranveer Singh and directed by Aditya Dhar is not only achieving great box office figures but also has become a craze among fans. Its longer than usual runtime of 3 hours and 49 minutes, viewers report being captivated throughout.

Although the narrative and visuals are receiving praise, one element that is distinctly prominent is the movie’s score, and this is where Jalandhar makes a powerful impact.

A significant portion of the soundtrack’s success is attributed to artists connected to Jalandhar and its surroundings. Ranging from heartfelt Sufi sensations to dynamic tracks, these sounds enhance the film’s authenticity and emotional impact for viewers.

A major highlight is Jyoti Nooran, who has contributed her vocals to two distinct tracks, ‘Tere Ishq Ne’ and ‘Vaari Jaavan.’ Supporters assert that her authentic and impactful vocals are a key factor in why these tracks are gaining popularity on platforms such as YouTube and Spotify, particularly in Punjab.

Another prominent figure contributing to the Jalandhar connection is Khan Saab, frequently referred to as ‘Bharat Da Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.’ His rendition of the title track Aari-Aari has emerged as one of the most discussed highlights from the film’s music launch, and a video also circulated widely in which Ranveer Singh persistently urged him to perform live. Khan Saab later characterized the experience as “spiritual,” highlighting the profound connection of the music.

The movie’s soundtrack includes Jasmine Sandlas and Satinder Sartaaj (from Hoshiarpur), each contributing their distinctive styles, Sartaaj infuses a Sufi element with Noor-e-Ilahi, while Jasmine enhances tracks like Aari-Aari and Main Aur Tu with her unique flair.

Ranveer Singh’s ‘on-screen mother’ from Jalandhar

In addition to her strong Jalandhar ties, actress Madhurjeet Sarghi, who portrays Ranveer Singh’s mother in Dhurandhar 2, has deep connections to the city, having started her acting career as a college student at HMV College and the GNDU Regional Campus in Jalandhar. During her college years, she participated in theatre, honing her acting abilities and emotional depth that viewers now applaud in the film.

Having a creative background with filmmaker Harjit Singh as her father and professor-lyricist Tejinder Kaur as her mother, Madhurjeet was always connected to the arts, and her initial performances in school and college plays in Jalandhar ultimately led to opportunities in stage productions and films.
