As the Punjab Legislative Assembly Elections are set for upcoming year 2027, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Anindita Mitra confirmed today that the state is fully prepared for the exercise, with over 74% of electors already mapped against historical records.

The mapping exercise is a key step before the Election Commission of India announces the official SIR schedule. A mapping exercise reportedly means collecting, verifying, and organizing information before starting a major official process.

According to data released on April 4, 2026, a total of 1,59,36,941 electors out of Punjab’s total 2,14,57,521 have been successfully mapped representing a progress rate of 74.27%. To ensure the accuracy of the current database, these records are being cross-referenced with previous intensive revision data.

“The pre-SIR mapping is being monitored daily at the headquarters level to resolve any local issues promptly and ensure a structured rollout,” stated CEO Anindita Mitra.

Mapping across Punjab is progressing where several of the areas are leading. The data to this is as follows-

  • Tarn Taran: 88.64%
  • Moga: 86.91%
  • Muktsar: 85.47%
  • Mansa: 84.20%

Major urban areas have revealed a steady progress, with Amritsar at 75.60%, Patiala at 69.33%, and Jalandhar at 68.05%. Ludhiana, the state’s most populous district, currently stands at 64.14%.

The CEO Mitra emphasized that the 2003 electoral rolls serve as the primary reference for this revision. Citizens are encouraged to:

  1. Visit the official portal at voters.eci.gov.in.
  2. Search for their names or those of family members (parents/grandparents) to establish a clear linkage.
  3. Prepare for the door-to-door enumeration conducted by Booth Level Officers (BLOs).

Once the revision begins, BLOs will visit every household to distribute and collect enumeration forms in duplicate. Every elector listed in the 2025 voter list is required to complete these forms and provide supporting documentation to ensure the rolls are accurate and inclusive.

To further ensure transparency, political parties have already appointed over 8,000 Booth Level Agents (BLAs) across the state to oversee the process and encourage wider public participation.
