India mourns the loss: Veteran Singer Asha Bhosle passes away at 92

Dr. Pratit Samdani of Breach Candy Hospital confirmed that she passed away at approximately 12:00 PM due to multi-organ failure.

India mourns the loss of legendary playback singer Asha Bhosle passed away today, April 12, 2026, at the age of 92. She reportedly took her last breath at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital.

Asha Bhosle was admitted to the hospital on the evening of Saturday, April 11, after experiencing extreme exhaustion and a chest infection. Her grand daughter, Zanai Bhosle, had earlier requested privacy while the veteran singer was under close observation in the ICU.

Dr. Pratit Samdani of Breach Candy Hospital confirmed that she passed away at approximately 12:00 PM due to multi-organ failure. Her son, Anand Bhosle, confirmed the news shortly after, stating, “She is no more. It is a profound loss for our family and the world of music.”

Her last rites are set to take place on Monday (April 13, 2026), starting at 11:00 AM at her residence, Casa Grande in Lower Parel. The funeral will be performed with state honors at 4:00 PM tomorrow at Shivaji Park, Mumbai.

A.R Rahman who is a popular Indian Singer and Composer, paying a soulful tribute to Asha Bhosle, wrote, “She lives forever with her voice and aura, What an artist.”

About Legendary Singh “Asha Bhosle”

Asha Bhosle was born in 1993 into a renowned Mangeshkar family. Her career significantly spanned over eight decades. She also is recognized by the Guinness World Records for recording over 11,000 songs in more than 20 Indian languages.

She was celebrated for her incredible range, moving effortlessly from soulful ghazals like “In Ankhon Ki Masti” to high-energy cabaret hits like “Piya Tu Ab To Aaja”. She was the first Indian singer nominated for a Grammy Award (1997) and received the Padma Vibhushan in 2008.
