The Punjab Government, via Milkfed Punjab, has declared an increase in the milk procurement price for farmers linked to Milkfed (Brand Verka), effective from 1st May 2026.
As per this decision, the milk procurement price has risen by Rs 20 for every kilogram of fat. The move aims to improve the income of dairy farmers, strengthen the rural economy, and strengthen the cooperative dairy infrastructure in the state.
According to Milkfed sources, this decision has been taken in accordance with the Chief Minister’s directives to protect the interests of farmers and dairy producers, who are the backbone of Punjab’s rural economy.
As per government data, around 2.5 lakh dairy farmers linked to Milkfed will quickly gain from this price rise. This will boost the earnings of the dairy industry and have a beneficial effect on the nearly 3 million milk producers in Punjab. All other businesses and organizations must also raise their purchasing costs to align with Milkfed.
As the top dairy cooperative in North India, this effort by Milkfed Punjab will create a substantial influence. It is projected that this will provide an extra advantage of around Rs 100 crore each month to the rural economy of Punjab.
