Army Jawan Assaulted at Meerut Toll Plaza: 6 Arrested, NHAI Fines Agency ₹20 Lakh

A shocking incident on Sunday (August 17, 2025) took place in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut highway toll plaza where toll workers beat an Indian Army Jawan. The incident came into notice when a video of this went viral on Social Media.

The victim has been identified as 26 year old Kapil Singh. Shortly after the video surfaced on the internet, police officials led an investigation on the matter. This resulted in finding out the cause of the event.

According to the information received, an army jawan who was returning to his duty, got caught in arguments with the toll workers. The soldier was on his way to catch a flight to join duty in Srinagar. He belongs to Gotka village, was on leave during Kanwar Yatra.

The argument after getting fueled turned into a shocking incident, reportedly took place at the Bhuni toll plaza in Sarurpur area. Reporting the seriousness of the matter, the officials have registered a formal case against the accused.

While the arguments surged, an army jawan also showed his ID to the group of toll workers. However, they did not stop. After having an in-depth investigation of the case, Police Officials arrested six individuals.

NHAI’s action against Toll Collection Agency

After the matter has taken a worsened turn, is spread all around. The NHAI ( National Highways Authority of India) has taken a strict action against the Toll Collection Agency for misbehaving with army personnel.

Press Information Bureau (PIB), Delhi highlighting the punishment announcement by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways released a press release. The PIB, in its released information reported-

“NHAI has imposed a penalty of Rs 20 lakhs on the toll collection agency, M/s Dharam Singh, in view of the grave breach of Contract Agreement due to the agency’s failure to manage the situation and ensure staff discipline.”

Continuing it, the National Highway Authority has started the process of terminating and debarring the toll collection firm from future participation in the toll plaza bid. It also states that such an action has been taken to ensure safe and seamless travel on National Highways.
