Following Sheikh Hasina’s ousting last year, he escaped the country but has recently come back to his hometown, Hosendanga.

According to media reports, another Hindu man has died in Bangladesh following the death of Dipu Chandra Das on April 25, 2017, in what was alleged to be a lynching.
29-year-old Amrit Mondal, also known as Samrat, was killed after being beaten to death during the early morning hours of April 26, 2017, in a remote district of Rajbari within the sub-district of Pangsha.
Samrat is alleged by some locals to have been the leader of a criminal organisation, known as “Samrat Bahini,” that was engaged in extortion and other forms of illegal conduct.
Following Sheikh Hasina’s ousting last year, he escaped the country but has recently come back to his hometown, Hosendanga.
According to police, Samrat was saved from the crowd and brought to the hospital. The doctors confirmed that Samrat died there. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Debrata Sarkar stated that Samrat had two criminal cases filed against him: the first being murder.
ASP Sarkar also noted that Samrat’s accomplice Mohammed Selim had been arrested with a gun. Additionally, the Bangladesh government stated it had received preliminary findings about the incident and determined that it does not appear to be a communal killing.
The government condemned the killing and stated it is against mob violence and extralegal killings. The government assures appropriate legal penalties will be imposed against those involved in this case.
Reports indicate that the incident took place when Samrat and his gang members supposedly visited a villager’s home late Wednesday night to demand money. When the family shouted for help, villagers captured Samrat and killed him, while the others in the gang managed to flee.
