Ferry Sofat, President of the legal cell while talking to a media person, reported on the court’s decision. Continuing his words, he mentioned that the decision was taken on two grounds:
- An investigation in underway, and
- He is charged with the serious nature of offenses.
After the court rejected the bail plea, Arshdeep Singh Kler who is spokesperson of the SAD (Shiromani Akali Dal) party and counsel of Majithia added that they will approach the Punjab and Haryana High Court for bail.
SAD MLA Ganeive Kaur’s Plea
Punjab and Haryana High Court on August 18, 2025 heard Shiromani Akali Dal MLA Ganeive Kaur Majithia’s plea. This was to withdraw a Vigilance Bureau notice in the DA case against her husband, Bikram Singh Majithia.
In the plea, Ganeive Kaur Majithia, highlighting her points, asked the court to:
- “Issue a writ in connection with the notice issued on August 12, 2025.”
- “Declare that the notice violates her right.”
The court reacting to the plea made the response due till September 26. However, the court refused interim relief so the Vigilance Bureau could proceed with the investigations. The Bureau on this extended that Ganeive Kaur Majithia is not an accused, was only asked to provide information.
What is the case about?
SAD Leader and Former State Minister Bikram Singh Majithia was arrested on June 25 with the charges of Disproportionate Assets. The Punjab Vigilance Bureau allegedly reported that he has been involved in laundering drug money worth INR 540 crore.
As per the sources, Majithia is currently in Patiala’s New Nabha Jail. However, following his arrest, there have been many modifications. He was sent to judicial custody on July 6 and his judicial remand was extended on July 19 and August 2.
According to recent reports, his judicial custody has been extended till August 28.
