CBI apprehended Bhullar on October 16 for reportedly accepting a bribe of Rs 8 lakh from a scrap dealer as “sewa pani.”

Officials on Wednesday stated that the CBI has arrested Punjab Police DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar in a new case for accumulating disproportionate assets.

CBI apprehended Bhullar on October 16 for reportedly accepting a bribe of Rs 8 lakh from a scrap dealer as “sewa pani.” Later searches led to the confiscation of cash valued at Rs 7.5 crore along with gold jewelry weighing 2.5 kg.

Moreover, 26 luxury timepieces, encompassing models from Rolex and Rado, documents related to over 50 real estate properties owned by family members and alleged benami entities, locker keys, information on several bank accounts, and four firearms with 100 live rounds were confiscated during the search operation.

Since his capture, CBI has also accessed multiple bank lockers he owns, they stated.

The assets confiscated during the searches have revealed supposed illegal wealth that appears to be several times greater than his declared income sources, leading the agency to file a new FIR against him, they stated.

The agency will use the confiscated assets as a foundation and could discover additional resources throughout the investigation, they mentioned.
