21-Year-Old Bengaluru Student Arrested for Alleged Rape in College Restroom

According to the FIR, Jeevan Gowda allegedly called her again that afternoon and inquired as to whether she “wanted pills.”

A 21-year-old engineering college student from south Bengaluru was taken into custody by the Bengaluru police on charges of raping a senior female student on campus.

The accused is Jeevan Gowda, a fifth-semester student at a Basavanagudi private institution. According to a senior police official, the girl has been with Jeevan for three months and is one year older than him.

The incident was reported during lunch on October 10th in the college’s men’s restroom, according to the FIR.

The girl claimed that on the day of the alleged occurrence, she had gone to class at 8:55 a.m. She told Jeevan Gowda that she would see him later in the day and was expected to pick up some items from him. According to reports, she was approached by Jeevan Gowda over lunch and told to meet him downstairs in their block.

During their relationship, he allegedly brought her to the seventh floor of the architecture building where he allegedly raped her.

“I left the grounds and went up to the sixth floor where he pulled me into the men’s washroom and locked the door,” she told the police.

When her buddy called, Jeevan Gowda allegedly stole her phone and put it in his pocket. Then he allegedly sexually assaulted her in the restroom. According to reports, the aforementioned crime took place between 1:30 and 1:50 p.m. According to the FIR, Jeevan Gowda allegedly called her again that afternoon and inquired as to whether she “wanted pills.”

Despite the fact that the alleged assault happened on October 10, the girl reported it to her parents and filed the complaint on October 15. She told the police that two of her friends encouraged and supported her to tell her family about the situation, and she then filed the complaint.

In relation to the rape case, Hanumanthanagar police filed a case under Section 64 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). On October 15, just hours after the complaint was filed, Jeevan Gowda was taken into custody.

The victim is a seventh-semester student, whereas the accused is a fifth-semester student, an officer informed The Hindu. She would go to a fifth-semester class because she was behind in one of the topics, and she made friends with Jeevan Gowda there.

“He has defended his claim that the deed was consensual when questioned. We have recorded his statement and are investigating the case from all possible directions,” the officer further added.
