Faridabad University Under Lens as Police Probe ‘Educated’ Terror Network

Authorities indicated that police earlier recovered more than 2,500 kg of explosives that included ammonium nitrate, potassium chlorate, and sulfur from his home.

In a significant development, the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday arrested a religious leader from Mewat, Haryana, for his supposed connection to a ‘white-collar’ terror network functioning from a university in Faridabad.

The preacher, known as Maulvi Ishtiyaq, was residing in a rented space located in the Al Falah University complex in Faridabad.

Authorities indicated that the police earlier recovered more than 2,500 kg of explosives that included ammonium nitrate, potassium chlorate, and sulfur from his home.

Ishtiyaq has been brought to Srinagar for questioning, and he is expected to be formally arrested soon. He will be the ninth individual to be arrested as part of the ongoing investigation linked to the terrorist network.

On November 10, police in cooperation with teams from Haryana and Uttar Pradesh led a series of interstate raids to uncover the elaborate “white-collar” terror network allegedly linked to banned groups Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind.

According to investigators, Dr Muzammil Ganaie alias Musaib, and Dr Umar Nabi—who was the driver of the car that contained explosives that exploded near Delhi’s Red Fort on Monday, killing 12—had allegedly kept those explosives in Ishtiyaq’s rented house.

Police sources said that this group consisted of educated men who used educational institutions to facilitate their terror activity, representing a disturbing new trend in terror financing and planning.
