A massive explosion on Friday (August 22, 2025) occurred on Hoshiarpur-Jalandhar Road at Mandiala. Late evening, a gas tanker overturned, causing a fire. The incident reportedly occurred at 10:45 pm.
The incident took place when a mini-truck and a tanker collided, causing it to overturn. The situation worsened in seconds as fire broke due to the leakage of LPG. Fire quickly spread all round taking the lives of two on the spot.
As per the sources, at least 15 shops and 4 houses were completely destroyed in the fire. Reportedly, two fatalities have come into notice. And, several are reported injured with burn injuries. Shortly after the incident happened, the victims were taken to the Hoshiarpur Civil Hospital.
Soon after the matter came into notice of authorities, the action was taken. Fire brigade teams from Hoshiarpur, Dasuya and Talwara were called. Meanwhile, the Hoshiarpur-Jalandhar National Highway was closed.
Ashika Jian, Deputy Commissioner of Hoshiarpur while talking to the media persons stated that the fire was brought into control by 1:30 am. She added that the damage due to this can only be assessed after the situations get normal.
“A detailed assessment of the cause of the accident and the extent of damage will be made once the situation is fully stabilised,” said the Deputy Commissioner.
Punjab State Minister, Dr. Ravjot Singh also addressed the media while being at the spot of the accident. He has mentioned that the authorities will stand with the victims, will provide compensation to the people affected.
What Eyewitness say-
After the incident was reported, the public and the media gathered at the spot. Considering the seriousness of the accident, media persons interacted with the eyewitnesses and people living nearby.
A person named Gurmukh Singh who also sustained burn injuries in the explosion added that the accident took place after a Mahindra pick up vehicle collided with a Gas Tanker.
Adding his words, he stated that before anybody could think or sense what had happened, the fire burst all around. And, the sound was so loud that it felt like a bomb had gone off.
