A shocking incident has come ahead after a six year old boy described watching his mother being doused with liquid, slapped and then set ablaze by his father and grandparents in their home in Greater Noida.
A child talking about the incident, told the neighbours, “Meri mumma ke upar kuch dala, fir unko chanta mara fir lighter se aag lga di.”
The victim has been identified as Nikki. After her son mentioned about the incident to the neighbours on Thursday night, the narrative has become a centre point for the investigation of such an issue.
Nikki after being affected by severe burn injuries was taken to Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital. There have been several videos circulated on social media, showing how Nikki was beaten and dragged by her hair, allegedly by her husband Vipin and mother-in-law.
Another clip as well is going viral, this shows Nikki being limping down a staircase moments after flames had engulfed her body.
Her elder sister, Kanchan, reportedly is married into the same family, recorded parts of the incident on her phone. While talking to the media persons, she told how Nikki had been harassed and assaulted for years over dowry demands, including a demand of INR 36 lakh.
“They hit her on her neck and head, then threw acid and set her ablaze. Our children were in the same house. I was also beaten unconscious,” said Kanchan, holding Nikki’s son in her arms.
What Police says on this
Police said Nikki’s husband Vipin has been arrested, while his parents and brother are on the run. A case of murder and conspiracy has been registered at Kasna Police Station.
“We received a call from Fortis Hospital that a woman with burn injuries had been admitted and later referred to Safdarjung Hospital. She succumbed to her injuries before police could reach,” mentioned DCP Sudhir Kumar.
Continuing his words, he added, “the family has performed the last rites. Based on the complaint of the victim’s sister, the husband has been arrested.”
What Nikki’s sister, Kanchan say
Victim Nikki’s sister claimed that Nikki’s death was premeditated so that Vipin could remarry. “We were tortured for days. They wanted her out of the way,” said Kanchan. She has taken the responsibility of raising Nikki’s son. She added that the tragedy has made him stuck.
Nikki married Vipin in 2016 and the couple had one child. Her family alleged that despite giving cars and valuables at the time of marriage, her in-laws kept demanding more money.
