The Amritsar Police on Wednesday carried out a major encounter in connection with the firing incident at a tyre shop, Creative Wheels, which took place in April last year.
The main accused, Gurpreet Singh alias Lal, was seriously injured during a gunfight with the police and has been admitted to a local hospital in Amritsar.
According to the police, the accused was taken near Sun City on Batala Road for recovery of weapons. During the operation, Gurpreet Singh allegedly opened fire on the police team using a concealed weapon. The police retaliated, injuring the accused and recovering the weapon from the spot.
Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that two shooters linked to gangster Prabh Dasuwal — Gurpreet Singh Lal (23) and Joban (18)
have been arrested in the case. A third accused, Bohar Singh, is already lodged in jail and will be questioned soon.
Investigations have revealed that the firing at Creative Wheels was preceded by a ransom threat. The shooters were reportedly paid Rs 10,000 for each task. Police also stated that the weapons were supplied by gangster Prabh Dasuwal and were sent through Pakistani drones.
Officials confirmed that several similar firing incidents in nearby areas are linked to the same gang. The investigation is ongoing, and police have assured strict action against those involved.
