Mahant community in Jalandhar seeks justice after alleged assault linked to a land dispute, warning of protests over police delay.

A conflict involving the Mahants and Mani Gill, referred to as Ghunghru Wale Baba, in the Kulfi Wali Gali region of Jalandhar’s Ghas Mandi has now intensified into a significant dispute. The Mahant community claims that Mani Gill assaulted their Mahant during a disagreement about land division, causing significant injuries to Mahant Monica.
According to sources, the two parties enjoyed a positive rapport prior to this incident. However, the ongoing dispute about this area appears to have been building for some time now and culminated in a physical confrontation. There is information indicating that the suspect, Mani Gill, has been on the run since the incident occurred.
The family of the victim has indicated they believe he is now staying with relatives (aunt, uncle and cousin) in Ludhiana, yet the police seem unresponsive to their pleas for an investigation.
The Mahants claim to have provided the police with details on potential locations of the accused, yet no arrests have been made. Gauri, representing the victim, stated that this is not the initial occurrence, as it is claimed that he assaulted her on the street four months prior.
The victim Gauri stated that the police have not taken any action regarding this matter so far. As a result, they have arrived at the Bhargava Camp police station today to demand action against Mani Gill.
The Mahant community has arrived at Bhargava camp police station to demand immediate justice through police action. They are threatening to stage a sit-in for not receiving the arrest within a reasonable time frame.
At the same time, Mohan, police station in-charge, has stated that the police are actively pursuing the arrest of the accused and have conducted multiple raids on identified locations. The police have registered cases against four known assailants, and five to six more unidentified suspects are down to be named as the investigations continue.
