Common Triggers of Anemia

What we eat in a day gives a huge impact on our body. Food items or diet that limits the iron absorption is considered as the triggers of Anemia. Various items to be completely avoided are:

  • Coffee: The richness of caffeine and tannin in the coffee beans makes it the most unhealthy option for Anemia as it binds to the iron which limits the iron absorption in the body.
  • Heavy diary: Items like, Buffalo milk, cheese, curd , ice cream, yogurt , butter etc. are very rich in calcium and the calcium competes with the iron. When both compete, calcium overshadows the iron limiting its assimilation in the body.
  • Phytate Rich Diet: Heavy grains like wheat, barley or the daily consumption of cereals like corn flakes, muesli etc hinders the iron absorption which can lead to anemia .

All these items should be avoided along with chocolates , various soy foods and cocoa as these plant based items hinders the iron from entering the body.
