Jalandhar: BJP Leaders, Activists Hold Protest Following Hindu-Muslim Row

“Maini is an accountant by profession,” Bhandari said in response to the Muslim leaders’ claims. He doesn’t even work at our party. He is a straightforward adherent of Sanatan Dharam.

Members of the Sanatan Raksha Manch and BJP officials staged a three-hour demonstration at Shri Ram Chowk here a day after tensions erupted between members of the Hindu community and a Muslim organization in Jalandhar over the shouting of religious slogans.

However, members of the Muslim Sangathan, Punjab, also alleged that Yogesh Maini, a Hindu activist, had purposefully attempted to incite them by yelling “Jai Shri Ram” outside the DC office, where they were already participating in a nonviolent demonstration with banners that read “I love Mohammad.” Ayub Khan, general secretary Mazhar Alam, and sangathan president Naim Khan referred to it all as a nefarious attempt to disrupt communal harmony and peace in Punjab and the rest of the nation in advance of the Bihar elections.

While they were waiting outside the DC office yesterday to deliver a memorandum to the Commissioner of Police over the “I love Mohammad” controversy in Uttar Pradesh, Muslim leaders attempted to portray Maini as having attempted to provoke them.

Videos of the Muslim community leaders surrounding him, attempting to physically abuse him, and even removing their shoes to beat him up were circulated by those who supported Maini. “How can a man who says “Jai Shri Ram” get beaten up? Why are these words incorrect? Was it wrong of him to say that? BJP leaders, including activist Amit Taneja and former MLA KD Bhandari, questioned how the Muslims could make him scream Allah hu Akbar.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Naresh Dogra and ADCP-1 Akarshi Jain managed to appease the Muslim leaders, while Joint Commissioner of Police Sandeep Sharma made contact with the agitated BJP leaders. They even sent Dogra a paper outlining their demands. Ayub Khan and Naim Khan’s names were added to the complaint’s supplemental copy by the complainant, Maini, who also requested that their names be included in the FIR. Both leaders, however, asserted that the incident occurred when they were in ADCP Dogra’s office transferring the memoranda. Instead, the two called for the arrest of Maini and the Hindu activists who attempted to incite communal tensions by blocking the BMC Chowk.

“Maini is an accountant by profession,” Bhandari said in response to the Muslim leaders’ claims. He doesn’t even work at our party. He is a straightforward adherent of Sanatan Dharam. He witnessed the burning of Yogi Adityanath, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, and PM Narendra Modi’s effigies. He simply wanted to remember God, so he exclaimed, “Jai Shri Ram.” In what way is this provocative?

“Had we not reached there in time, anything could have happened,” stated BJP leaders Amit Bhatia and Rajesh Jain, who allegedly leaped over the wall of the DC office to save Maini. He needed to be rescued and taken to safety.

FIR number 177 was filed against unidentified individuals in response to Maini’s accusation, in accordance with BNS Sections 115(2) (voluntary causing harm), 126(2) (wrongful restraint), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), and 299 (act to outrage religious feelings).
