Italy’s Neso Air made this announcement through a statement which was posted on their official website. It wrote, the services will no longer operate due to “current international geopolitical instability and the resulting decline in booking trends, with load factors unfortunately to ensure operational sustainability.”
According to Neos Air, customers who made direct reservations on its website will get refund instructions via email, while customers who made reservations through travel agencies are encouraged to speak with their agents. Since April 2023, Neos Air has continued this operation despite being a smaller airline.
Although the flight from Amritsar to Toronto has shut, the travelers still have easy accessibility to Toronto through Qatar Airways. The passengers can have a direct flight from Amritsar to Doha.
While, if the passengers want to choose a one-stop flight, there is an option. Air India provides connectivity to it via Delhi.
Concerns about the suspension have been raised by local activists and citizens. “For thousands of Punjabi diaspora members in Canada who rely on easy connections from Amritsar, this suspension is a significant setback,” said Sameep Singh Gumtala and Anantdeep Singh Dhillon of FlyAmritsar Initiative in a joint statement. It also emphasizes how urgently long-distance, sustainable operations to and from Punjab are needed.
After such an announcement by Italy based Airline, Gumtala highlighted that now it’s the time for Air India to announce the route. He added that Air India can avail its services to the Punjabi diaspora by introducing direct flights between Amritsar and Toronto.
