Afghanistan’s Taliban Foreign Minister on Wednesday (today, October 08, 2025) visited India today. He for the first time paid this visit to New Delhi after the group took over in 2021.

The visit aims at strengthening the ties. It marks an attempt towards increasing interactions with the neighboring nations. Such a visit will surely pay great as a part of economic and diplomatic recognition.

As per the statement of Afghanistan’s Foreign Ministry, country’s Foreign Minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi will meet Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar. The Ministers will have the talk about politics, trade and the economy.

There had been great relations between India and the Taliban. However, after the US left Afghanistan in 2021, India closed its embassy in Kabul. Notably, a year later, India set up a small mission in Afghanistan to help with humanitarian air, trade and healthcare.

Despite not formally acknowledging the Taliban government, New Delhi has begun to thaw relations through discussions and meetings with top officials in their respective foreign ministries.

India’s foreign ministry said last week that Muttaqi’s trip was made possible after the U.N. The Security Council Committee temporarily lifted a travel ban on him to permit diplomatic engagements overseas.

According to the Afghan Taliban foreign ministry last week, Muttaqi’s visit will focus on bilateral cooperation, trade exchanges, dry fruit exports, health facilities, consular services, and various ports.

Muttaqi was present at a regional gathering in Moscow on Tuesday whereby Afghanistan’s neighbors—India, Pakistan, Iran, China, and a number of Central Asian nations—issued a united statement denouncing the placement of foreign military facilities in the area.

The statement was seen as a protest against the stated goal of U.S. President Donald Trump to reclaim the Bagram military camp near Kabul.
