Trump Announces End of Gaza Conflict Ahead of Egypt Peace Summit

The agreement states that Israel will release 250 Palestinian detainees, including those convicted of major crimes, but senior Hamas officials will not be included in the list.

As Trump left for Israel on Monday, the first time since he mediated a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, US President Donald Trump said that the fighting in Gaza was over. Prior to co-chairing a high-level peace summit in Egypt, he is anticipated to speak to the Knesset.

Trump told reporters, “The war is over, you understand that, “according to Reuters. In response to a question concerning the future of the area, he continued, “I think it’s going to normalise.”

He also emphasized Qatar’s contribution to facilitating the peace between Israel and Hamas.

A “Board of Peace” will soon be established to supervise Gaza’s restoration, he said, adding that some hostages may be released sooner than anticipated. He called the enclave a “demolition site.”

“Everyone, whether from Arab, Muslim, or Jewish nations, is content. After Israel, we’re heading to Egypt, where we’ll see the leaders of all the major, wealthy, and strong nations, and they’re all on board with this agreement,” he continued.

Along with UN Secretary-General António Guterres and European Council President António Costa, leaders from France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Turkey, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and India are in attendance.

The agreement states that Israel will release 250 Palestinian detainees, including those convicted of major crimes, but senior Hamas officials will not be included in the list. Hamas must release all remaining captives by Monday at noon (0900 GMT).

In a televised speech, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu proclaimed victory against Hamas.

“Tomorrow is the beginning of a new path -a path of building, of healing, and, I hope, of uniting hearts.”

“On this day, and I hope also in the period that is almost upon us, we have all the reasons to set them aside, because with joint strength, we achieved spectacular victories, victories that stunned the entire world,” he said.

“Everyone is content, whether they are Arab, Muslim, or Jewish. After Israel, we’re heading to Egypt, where we’ll meet with the leaders of all the major, wealthy, and powerful nations, as well as others, who are all on board with this agreement,” he continued.
