Raja Warring Apologizes After FIR, NCSC Notice Over Alleged Cast Comments

Raja Warring has been charged under Sections 353 and 196 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) as well as Sections 3(1)(u) and 3(1)(v) of the SC/ST Act.

An FIR has been filed against Punjab Congress leader and Ludhiana MP Amarinder Singh Raja Warring in Kapurthala due to his comments regarding late former Union Home Minister Buta Singh. The lawsuit was initiated following a complaint made to the police by Buta Singh’s son, Sarabjot Singh Sidhu.

Raja Warring has been charged under Sections 353 and 196 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) as well as Sections 3(1)(u) and 3(1)(v) of the SC/ST Act.

On Monday morning, state finance minister Harpal Cheema cautioned that serious legal measures would be pursued against Warring.

The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) on Tuesday notably issued a notice to the deputy commissioner (DC) of Tarn Taran and the senior superintendent of police concerning Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring’s purportedly “casteist comments” directed at former Union home minister Buta Singh during an election rally in the district.

During the campaign for the Congress candidate in the Tarn Taran Assembly bypoll on November 11, Warring made comments regarding the former Union minister that drew intense backlash from leaders of various political parties.

In response to the criticism, Warring explained that the late Buta Singh, a prominent Congress leader, was a father figure to him and that he meant no disrespect to him or anyone. “I want to emphasize that I did not intend any disrespect towards the late Sardar Buta Singh, but if my words have caused harm to anyone, I genuinely and wholeheartedly apologize,” he stated.
