CM Mann meets Amit Shah: Seeks release of ₹8,500 Crore RDF

While in the meeting, CM Mann elaborated that Punjab lacks surplus water, thus the SYL matter needs urgent resolution.

The Chief Minister of Punjab, Bhagwant Mann on Saturday (January 17, 2026) had a meeting with Union Home Minister, Amit Shah in New Delhi.

In the meeting, the two engaged in an extensive discussion on various significant topics, which included border regions beyond the fence and the Seed Bill.

In the meeting, the CM highlighted the matter of the Seed Bill not being presented in Parliament without consulting Punjab, even though Punjab is an agricultural state. He elaborated that Punjab lacks surplus water, thus the SYL matter needs urgent resolution. He additionally highlighted the need to assign an officer from the Punjab cadre to the position of General Manager at the Food Corporation of India (FCI).

Alongside this, he also asked for the release of Rs 8,500 crore from the Rural Development Fund (RDF), and spoke about issues concerning Food and Civil Supplies as well as storage. He also emphasized the necessity for a quick solution to the issues encountered by farmers working land in the border regions that extend beyond the fence.

The Home Minister assured that every demand presented by the Chief Minister would be taken into account.
