“Where Is Uber’s Responsibility?”: Mother Questions Ride-Hailing Safety After Mohali Crash

A mother in Chandigarh has raised the alarm with a social media post accusing Uber of being grossly negligent after the driver abandoned the accident, leaving her daughter stuck. This has caused a huge outcry and raised further calls for safety regulations on ride-hailing applications.

Shilpa Arora, co-founder and CO of Insurance Samadhan, wrote in a LinkedIn post “Where is Uber’s Responsibility?”

Her daughter took an Uber to college when the vehicle was involved in a serious accident near Mohali at 7:52 am. The collision was so severe that airbags deployed immediately, but the driver came out unharmed and just walked off, leaving the frightened passengers behind.

Passersby hurried the wounded girl to Fortis Mohali, whereas Uber reportedly provided no communication, submitted no FIR, and gave no help.

“Can kids be abandoned to the kindness of strangers while the platform distances itself?” she inquired.

The girl was saved by unknown individuals, but the Uber support team remained unresponsive.

Uber responded, “Hello Shilpa, we are very worried about this event and hope your daughter recovers quickly.” A dedicated team is currently looking into the matter and has tried to reach out.

An Uber representative stated, “We reached out to the family of the hurt passengers immediately after this incident came to our notice and we wish them a quick recovery. ”We have denied the driver access to the platform and are prepared to assist authorities if there is an investigation into the incident.”
