Multiple district bus stands in Punjab were closed on Friday as roadways workers protested. Employees of Roadways declared a protest without a set end date in Punjab. They are insisting on the reversal of the Kilometer Scheme, the release of their imprisoned union leaders, and the regularization of contract employees.
The demonstration in Sangrur took an odd turn when a participating employee reportedly tried to set himself on fire by dousing himself in petrol. To prevent him, the Dhuri SHO suffered burn injuries. The officer was quickly taken to the hospital for care. A video of the occurrence has also surfaced.
The video also features a crowd of demonstrators on top of a bus, dousing police officers and other security forces with petrol.
An individual who works for the Ludhiana Roadways department climbed a water tank shaped like a bus; he did so at the Ludhiana Bus Stand.
