In Chandigarh, a drunk police officer caused havoc on Kaimbwala Road at Sukhna Lake when he drove his vehicle into multiple other vehicles. The drunk officer, Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) Daljit Singh, reportedly drove over 10 vehicles in this incident.
According to eyewitnesses, ASI Daljit Singh was so drunk that he was unable to see the road in front of him, resulting in his hitting cars and other vehicles on the road, creating panic and disarray. He finally stopped driving after colliding head-on with a school bus travelling in the opposite direction.
It is suspected ASI Daljit Singh caused damage to over a dozen cars and scooters. When the incident occurred, eyewitnesses immediately contacted the Police Control Room and notified them. The police unit who responded arrived at the accident scene and attempted to extract ASI Daljit Singh from his vehicle, which was in pieces following the wreckage of the vehicles he hit. The officers struggled for some time but finally succeeded.
ASI Daljit Singh sustained severe injuries to his head/forehead area due to the impact and breaking of the windshield. The police unit quickly transported him to the local hospital. Preliminary investigation has confirmed that ASI Daljit Singh was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. The officer is currently facing both departmental and criminal charges.
The ASI was stuck in the car that was damaged when the PCR team arrived; the officers had to force the door open to save him. His forehead had a serious cut from the broken windshield, and there was blood on his face, including around his eye.
