Ferozepur, December 12, 2025: Ferozepur: Police nabbed Gurpreet Singh Sekhon, a gangster who has turned into a politician and a guardian, as a preventive measure against the forthcoming Zila Parishad elections. Officials reported that this action was taken in order to keep the law and order intact and also to ensure that the polling process is conducted peacefully in the district.

Gurpreet Singh Sekhon has been arrested on a complaint at Kulgarhi station as a preventive action and no case has been registered. However, for further actions, he will be presented at the SDM office today afternoon. Karan Sharma, DSP said.

In Ferozepur, the former “most wanted” gangster Gurpreet Singh Sekhon, who is also known as Sonu Mudki, was seen enjoying active involvement in the Zila Parishad elections.

One of the messages that became viral on social media suggested that the supporters of Gurpreet Singh Sekhon from Mudki should get together at Bazidpur Chowk for a protest against the arrest of Sekhon.

The message also included a video that showed him recording a message on 11.12.2025 on Thursday at 2.40 pm, which was sent before he was arrested where he mentioned the MLA for registration of a case, to report false and he also requested for maximum voting.

Sekhon is known to have played a crucial part in the sensational Nabha jailbreak of November 2016 (when SAD-BJP was in power). He was released by a group of gunmen who invaded the Patiala high-security jail and assisted the escape of six “most wanted” criminals, including two terrorists, from the facility. Sekhon’s position is that after the completion of almost 10 years in jail he has now been a changed man and is part of mainstream politics.

Two of his female relatives, his wife Mandeep Kaur (Bazidpur zone) and Kuljeet Kaur (Ferozeshah zone), are contesting the zila parishad polls, with Sekhon personally leading their campaign.

He has not just changed the way he looks, now looking like a man from the Middle East with a long beard, but has also passed by a convoy of vehicles since his release from prison two years ago. He has recently crossed the threshold of more than 50,000 followers on Facebook.

He was in one of his press meetings at Ferozepur on September 22 where he announced that he will work for the transformation of Punjab into a drug-free state, declaring himself a social reform crusader who dedicates his life to public service.
