Passengers injured as Kalka–New Delhi Shatabdi derails suddenly at Chandigarh Station

The incident occurred at around 7 am, when the loco pilot allegedly moved the train before scheduled departure time, without any announcement.

Several passengers were injured while boarding the Kalka–New Delhi Shatabdi Express at Chandigarh railway station on Sunday morning, after the train allegedly moved suddenly without warning.

According to passengers, the train arrived late at the station and stopped only for a short time. While many passengers were still boarding, the train reportedly started moving abruptly, causing panic on the platform.

The incident occurred at around 7 am, when the loco pilot allegedly moved the train before the scheduled departure time, without any announcement or clearance. Due to the sudden movement, several passengers lost their balance and fell on the platform. Women and elderly passengers were among those injured.

Officials said that around 20 to 40 passengers sustained injuries in the incident.

Taking cognisance of the matter, the Government Railway Police (GRP), Chandigarh, have registered a case of attempted murder against the loco pilot of the train.

The case was registered on the basis of a complaint filed by a passenger, Surender Bhardwaj. The GRP has invoked relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Railways Act.

Police have seized CCTV footage from the railway station and have begun an investigation. Passengers who were present on the train at the time of the incident will also be questioned.
