After the motorcycle fell on the road, the occupants of the car reportedly attacked the youth with iron rods and other weapons.
One youth was killed and another seriously injured after they were attacked by unidentified assailants near Fatehgarh Korotana village in Moga district on Thursday.
The deceased has been identified as Lovepreet Singh, while the injured youth is Dilpreet Singh. Both were travelling on a motorcycle along with a friend, identified as Jolly, from Moga towards Dharamkot when a car allegedly hit their bike from behind.
After the motorcycle fell on the road, the occupants of the car reportedly attacked the youths with iron rods and other weapons. Lovepreet suffered severe injuries and died on the spot. Dilpreet was rushed to the Civil Hospital at Kot Ise Khan, where his condition is said to be serious. The third youth sustained minor injuries and managed to escape.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Jaswinder Singh said a case has been registered based on statements from the victim’s family. Preliminary investigations suggest that the attack was linked to an old rivalry.
The DSP also confirmed that Lovepreet Singh was facing a criminal case at the Kot Ise Khan police station. He said multiple police teams have been formed to trace and arrest the attackers. “The accused will be arrested soon,” he assured.
