At least eight people lost their lives and several others were injured after a private bus met with a tragic accident near Haripurdhar in Sirmaur district of Himachal Pradesh on Monday.
The bus was travelling from Kupvi to Shimla when it reportedly lost control near Haripurdhar and plunged into a deep valley. The impact was severe, leaving the bus completely mangled.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Sirmaur, Nishchint Singh Negi, confirmed eight deaths in the accident. He said around 30 to 35 passengers were on board the bus at the time of the crash and added that the death toll could rise.
Eyewitnesses said the accident caused panic in the area, with cries for help heard soon after the bus fell into the valley. Local residents rushed to the spot and informed the authorities.
Police, district administration officials, and rescue teams were immediately sent to the site. Rescue operations are ongoing to evacuate the injured and recover bodies.
The injured passengers have been shifted to nearby hospitals, where several are reported to be in critical condition. Senior district officials are present at the site to supervise the rescue efforts.
The exact cause of the accident is yet to be known. Police have started an investigation.
