Fire Breaks Out Again at Prayagraj Magh Mela, No Casualties Reported

The fire broke out at the Brahmashram Camp on the lower road of Sector 4, destroying at least two large camps and more than 10 tents.

For the second consecutive day, a fire incident was reported at the Prayagraj Magh Mela, causing panic among pilgrims on Wednesday evening.

The fire broke out at the Brahmashram Camp on the lower road of Sector 4, destroying at least two large camps and more than 10 tents. Officials said strong winds helped the flames spread quickly, and thick smoke from the site was visible from several kilometres away.

Several Kalpvasis managed to escape in time, preventing any loss of life. Fire brigade teams rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control using continuous water sprays. The affected area was immediately sealed to stop the fire from spreading further.

Initial rescue efforts were carried out by police personnel and saints present at the camp. Later, 10 fire tenders, 10 ambulances and around 30 firefighters were deployed to shift pilgrims to safer locations.

While no casualties were reported, personal belongings of the Kalpvasis were completely destroyed in the fire.

Fire officials said the blaze was caused by a lamp (diya) lit inside the camp, which ignited straw and cloth tents. “The fire spread rapidly, but fortunately no one was injured,” an official said.

The incident comes a day after another fire at the Narayan Shukla Dham Camp in Sector 5, where 15 tents and 20 shops were gutted, leaving one Kalpvasi injured. That fire was reportedly caused by a short circuit.

Authorities have urged pilgrims and camp organisers to strictly follow fire safety guidelines during the ongoing Magh Mela to prevent further incidents.
