Jalandhar: Massive Fire Breaks Out at Cold Storage Facility in Kartarpur

The situation was so worsened that around 10 fire brigade vehicles from Jalandhar and Kartarpur arrived at the spot to tackle the fire. 

A fire incident on Thursday has been reported in Kartarpur on Jalandhar-Amritsar Highway. Fire reportedly erupted at a three-storey cold storage and ice factory near Dayalpur and GT Road, Pritam Nagar.

The factory stores large quantities of potatoes. As per the information received, thick smoke and flames rose over 50 feet, and were visible from much distance. 

The situation was so worsened that around 10 fire brigade vehicles from Jalandhar and Kartarpur arrived at the spot to tackle the fire. 

Police teams from the Kartarpur police station also reached the site to assist with crowd control and ensure public safety. Authorities confirmed that no one was present inside the cold storage at the time of the incident, and no loss of life has been reported.

Residents living near the facility said they heard the fire alarm and saw flames engulfing the building, following which emergency services were alerted. The fire spread rapidly, causing significant damage to the structure and stored goods. Preliminary estimates suggest that losses could run into several lakhs of rupees.

Officials said the exact cause of the fire is not yet known. A detailed investigation will be carried out once the fire is completely extinguished and the site is declared safe.

Fire department officials stated that cooling operations may take several hours due to the nature of materials stored inside the cold storage. Authorities have urged people to stay away from the area to allow emergency teams to work without obstruction.
