Punjab Power Employees Protest Outside PSPCL Office Against Asset Sale, Electricity Bill 2025

A large-scale protest rally on Wednesday (today) took place outside the PSPCL Head Office in Patiala, where employees, engineers, and pensioners from all over Punjab assembled to express their dissent against the planned sale of Power Department assets, the Electricity Bill 2025, and the establishment of two 800MW thermal units in Ropar.

Leaders of PSJAC who spoke at the Dharna from various Unions/Associations included Ajaypal Singh Atwal, General Secretary of the Engineers’ Association and Secretary of the Joint Action Committee, JEs Council, Bijli Mufazam Sangrashshil Morcha, along with manyother leaders.

Leaders of the Joint Action Committee stated that the Punjab government is independently planning to sell the assets of Powercom situated in various cities under the guise of a special government scheme (OUVGL), which harms the interests of the State Power Sector.

Chief Patron Padamjit Singh stated that the nation’s power distribution firms have jointly declared a profit after tax amounting to Rs 2,700 crore. Nonetheless, the Central Government is said to be determined to present the controversial Electricity Amendment Bill 2025 during the current Budget Session of Parliament in a disorganized fashion solely to enable corporations to controlpower distribution.

The protest was also backed bythe leadership of the Outsourced Mulazam Union and CPF Union.

The Joint Action Committee approved several resolutions and has additionally urged all trade unions in the Punjab Power Sector to participate in the nationwide strike on February 12.
