Ludhiana Police have registered a criminal case against the daughter-in-law of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Rajinder Pal Kaur Chhina and six of her family members on charges of cheating, criminal conspiracy and theft.

According to an FIR filed at Daba police station, the accused, Navneet Kaur, a Mohali resident currently living in Australia — allegedly removed the MLA’s son’s name from an Australian permanent residency (PR) application after a marital dispute. The complaint was lodged by the MLA’s husband, Harpreet Singh.

The complainant told police that the family spent nearly Rs 50 lakh to help Navneet Kaur settle in Australia. The couple moved there together in 2018 on a spouse visa. However, when the MLA’s son was close to becoming eligible for PR, Kaur allegedly withdrew his name from the application without his consent.

The FIR also includes theft allegations. The complainant claimed that members of Kaur’s family later visited the MLA’s Ludhiana home and allegedly stole about 20 tolas of gold and other valuables from a cupboard.

According to the complaint, when the MLA’s son questioned Kaur about the missing items, an argument followed, after which she allegedly removed his name from the PR process, causing financial and personal loss.

Police have named Navneet Kaur, her parents; Teja Singh Nagra and Harpal Kaur Nagra and other relatives in the case. Officials said the investigation is ongoing and further action will be taken based on the evidence.
