In a significant development during the continuous effort to establish Punjab as a safe state as instructed by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Anti Gangster Task Force (AGTF) of Punjab Police, collaborating with the Special Task Force, Haryana (Karnal Unit), arrested two shooters linked to the Chandigarh Sector 9 murder case after a brief gunfight in Kaithal and seized three advanced weapons from them, stated Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav on Thursday.
The individuals apprehended have been recognized as Rajan, also known as Piyush Pehalwan, who lives in Ferozepur, and Pritam Shah, who resides in Nawanshahr. The seized firearms consist of a .30 bore PX-5 pistol, a.30 caliber Chinese pistol, and a .32 caliber pistol, in addition to ammunition.
According to the details, victim Charanpreet Singh, also known as Chinni, was killed by two unknown attackers in Sector 9, Chandigarh on Wednesday.
DGP Gaurav Yadav stated that the apprehended individuals are the associates of Gangster Lucky Patial from the Bambiha gang. Initial inquiries have indicated that Rajan, known as Piyush Pehalwan, in the murder case of Yadwinder Singh, who was the driver for Jiwanjot Singh, also known as Jugnu, he stated.
The DGP stated that AGTF Punjab has revealed the complete module and apprehended the suspects in under 30 hours. He mentioned that additional inquiries are being conducted.
Disclosing operational specifics, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) AGTF Promod Ban stated that after the incident, AGTF swiftly initiated a special operation “OPs Silent Trigger” overseen by DIG AGTF Gurmit Singh Chauhan to identify and apprehend the individuals involved in this case.
He stated that during the operation, the accused fired at police teams headed by SP AGTF Bikramjit Singh Brar. In the retaliatory exchange, both individuals involved suffered injuries and were promptly taken to the hospital for medical care, he stated.
The ADGP stated that preliminary questioning has shown that the accused Piyush traveled from Malaysia through Nepal to carry out the murder under the instructions of foreign based handler.
