A controversy has erupted in Jalalabad as the BJP held a press conference today, accusing Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Goldy Kamboj of high-handedness, harassment, and attempting to forcibly seize a prime school property located right across from his residence.
The case revolves around a property formerly known as IJ Public School (later DIPS School) in Jalalabad. A local family, represented by Gagan Chawla and his sister Stuti, claims they entered into a legal agreement (Biyana) to purchase the school for approximately Rs 6.25 crore, paying an advance of over Rs 1.25 crore.
However, the family alleges that once MLA Goldy Kamboj realized the deal was finalized, he began pressuring them to cancel it. The motive, according to BJP District President Kaka Kamboj, is simple: the MLA wants the prime land for himself because it sits directly opposite his palatial home.
Allegations of Harassment and “False” FIRs
The Chawla family has leveled several serious allegations against the MLA and the local police. The family claims they received phone calls warning them that “the sun would not rise for them” if they didn’t back out of the deal.
It is alleged that local police registered “fake” FIRs against the family and the school’s previous owners. In one instance, an FIR was filed claiming a vehicle was used to move assets from the school on a day when the vehicle was documented to be at a service center in Chandigarh.
The BJP leaders claimed that the MLA’s associates demanded ₹5 crore to “settle” the matter, or else the family would face continuous legal trouble.
The “Royal” Lifestyle Shift
During the briefing, BJP leaders took a swipe at the MLA’s financial growth, questioning how a leader who famously rode a bicycle during his campaign is now allegedly building “mahal-like” (palace-like) houses on six-acre plots. They have called for an Enforcement Directorate (ED) probe into the MLA’s assets.
Citing a total lack of faith in the local Punjab Police whom they accused of acting as the MLA’s “personal force,” the BJP and the victimized family are demanding a CBI inquiry.
“If Chief Minister Bhagwant Man is truly honest, he must hand this over to the CBI to ensure a fair investigation,” stated the BJP spokesperson.
The victimized family expressed deep emotional distress, with one member stating they had contemplated suicide due to the intense pressure and fear for their lives. The MLA has yet to release an official rebuttal to these specific allegations.
