National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) workers staged a protest in Ahmedabad on Thursday, demanding justice following the death of a student who was stabbed by a classmate.
Holding placards, a large number of NSUI workers took to the streets to protest against the authorities and attempted to enter the Seventh Day Adventist Higher Secondary School.
However, a heavy deployment of police personnel prevented them from entering the premises, and some protesters were taken into preventive custody on the spot.
In addition to the security personnel, water cannons were deployed outside the school. Family members of the deceased student on Wednesday approached the police with complaints against the school management.
Police further said that the victim who is a Class 10 student on Tuesday night was stabbed by a classmate following an altercation and later succumbed to his injuries. “The accused, has been detained, and an FIR has been registered,” reveal the sources.
After confirming the earlier reports, police officials confirmed that both the victim and the accused were students of Class 10, contradicting the statements from the State Education Minister Praful Pansheriya, who had said the accused was a Class 9 student.
“A Class 10 student stabbed his classmate at Seventh Day Adventist Higher Secondary School yesterday. The victim died during treatment last night. Police have registered an FIR and detained the juvenile accused,” PTI quoted Joint Commissioner of Police Jaipal Singh Rathore as saying.
People in hundreds including the victim’s family, parents of other students, and members of the Sindhi community, gathered at the school to demand action against the administration.
Shortly, after the people in large amount gathered, the protest became more wide and violent, with many damaging school buses and vehicles parked on the premises and assaulting staff members, PTI reported, citing police.
Initially, it was being hard for the authorities to control the situation. However, they had to make the things sorted. In an action towards safeguarding school properties, they started pushing the crowd out of school grounds.
After such an action was taken, protesters continued raising their voice towards justice by sitting on the road, blocking traffic and shouting slogans against the police. They continued their voice to push action against the school administration.
