Torrential Rains have hit many parts of India. The deadly landslides and flood like situations have laid major devastation across Himachal due to which 821 roads including three National Highways (NH 3, 5 and 305) are blocked.
These highways include NH-3 (Mandi region), NH-305 (Kullu region), NH-5 (parts of Kinnaur district). The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for many of the districts in Himachal Pradesh.
As heavy to extremely heavy rains are continuously affecting the state, the districts under red alert are Chamba, Sirmaur, Solan, Bilaspur. Not just this, there have also been Orange alerts introduced for Shimla and other adjoining areas.
Disruptions: Road Blockages, Transformer Distributions

Considering the deadly conditions, the roads which have been blocked include-
- 253 in Chamba
- 207 in Mandi (including NH 3)
- 176 in Kullu (including NH 305)
- 61 in Kangra
- 39 in Shimla
- 22 in Una
- 18 in Solan
- 18 in Sirmaur
- 13 in Bilaspur
- 11 in Lahaul and Spiti (Including NH 5)
Adding to it, there have also been reports of disruptions in power supply as many of the transformers have been disrupted in all the above mentioned districts. In collective ways, out of 1236 transformers, 357 in Kullu, 330 in Una, 296 in Chamba, 117 in Mandi have been disrupted.
Not only this, there have also been issues of water supply reported in the disaster prone areas where 212 in Kangra, 77 in Chamba, 56 in Mandi, 32 in Shimla and many more have been witnessed.
Death Toll reaches to 166, Authorities actions underway
After disastrous rain has hit Himachal, the death toll has reached 166. As per the media reports, along with 166 dead, 40 have been reported missing. As well, the damage reported has been worth INR 3042 crore.
The Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu, considering the situation on Saturday conducted an aerial survey of flood and disaster affected areas of Kangra and Chamba District.
Continuing with the efforts, the CM has stepped ahead with road repairing, network restoration, evacuation programmes, helicopter deployment and other emergency support as part of relief efforts.
Moreover, The Himachal Assembly Speaker as well chaired a high level meeting with the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and the Transport Ministry. The meeting was held to push highway restoration and effective coordination after major incidents took place due to rain havoc.
