Many visuals are surfacing on social media revealing the damaged roads, houses, shops. As well, it has been reported that such critical rains washed out the bridge.
Disaster Management Secretary Vinod Kumar Suman told the media, that damage was observed at areas like Sahastradhara and Mal Devta in Dehradun, and also from Mussoorie.
He further stated that at least two people have been missing in Dehradun, , while a death has been reported from Mussoorie and is being verified. Teams are engaged in relief and rescue operations in the affected areas, while 300 to 400 people have been moved to safety, he said.
The Centre has assured assistance to the flood-hit regions. PM Narendra Modi has reportedly had a phone call with Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami.
The Prime Minister reportedly had announced INR 1200 Crore for relief operations in the state, and has also declared the ex-gratia of INR 2 Lakh to the deceased person’s families as compensation. Moreover, INR 50000 is declared for the ones who got injured.
The aftermath of cloudburst following heavy rains led to the bridge collapse near Maldevta in Dehradun. Chief Minister Dhami with other officials including MLAs visited the affected areas.
After viewing the situations, he stated that the authorities are working on relief and rescue operations.
“The state government stands with every affected family. The administration is already on alert mode and the NDRF, SDRF, police and local administration are constantly active,” the chief minister said.
“I am constantly in touch with the local administration in this regard and am personally monitoring the situation. I pray to God for everyone’s safety,” he said in a post in Hindi on X.
Heavy rains caused the Song River to swell, flooding the nearby areas. The water level in Tamsa river as well rose and Tapkeshwar Mahadev temple is reported submerged under the havoc of heavy rains.
The Chandrabhaga river also reported similar conditions as heavy rains reached Rishikesh, following which SDRF personnel rescued a stranded vehicle from here.
