After the sudden death of a 13-year-old girl found in the bathroom of a neighboring house, anger and sorrow spread throughout Paras Estate near Leather Complex in Jalandhar West late Saturday night. The girl’s death occurred only a few hours after she was reported missing.
As per residents, the minor girl was allegedly raped and murdered by the neighbour, who has been arrested by the police.
The local police have been openly criticized by the residents, who were joined by the BJP leader Sheetal Angural, for their negligence in the proper handling of the case.
The victim, who lived in Paras Estate, visited her father’s friend’s house on the same street and never returned. Her family filed a missing persons report; neighbors reported to police that she had been seen entering the neighbor’s house just before she disappeared, a fact that even the CCTV camera had recorded.
Nonetheless, after thoroughly searching the suspect’s home, police officers did not find any clues related to the missing girl. Surprisingly, it was the residents themselves who stumbled upon the body inside the same house bathroom that created a sensation of outrage.
After enraged locals who found the man inside the house beat him badly, the additional police teams reached the place.
However, the residents did not allow the police to take the accused and they insisted that he be beaten up to death at the same spot, the police however, were able to pick up the accused and went away from the place.
A body was found, and immediately a group of senior police officers came to the place. In the area, the BJP leader Sheetal Angural too came, who condemned the police in the strongest possible manner for what he calls the negligent handling of the case that cost the girl’s life.
A considerable number of the residents shared their views and based their opinion on the observation that the tragedy would have been averted by the act of promptly searching and taking the necessary steps.
The Basti Bawa Khel police station covers the area where the Paras Estate and Leather Complex Road are located, and this unfortunate incident happened at that spot. The police are looking into the matter but have not released any official reports concerning the factors that were related to the girl’s death or the supposed negligence.
During the time of filing the complaint, the neighborhood situation was quite tense, and the high-ranking police officers stated that they are still in the process of verifying all the facts and witness accounts.
The residents further complained that the police, who arrested the accused, did not take the body for further examination and the forensic team that has not come over to the scene yet. They sought action against those police officers who did not find the girl in the house even though they did a thorough search and bring her to the search and justice.
