The beautiful Radha was eleven months older than Lord Krishna. One day, Maa Yashodha took Krishna on Lap, Kritida had Radha with her and that very day, Radha’s heart realised the presence of Kanha and she opened her eyes.

Radha is the most beloved figure of Hinduism. She was a daughter of Barsana ruler and his wife, Vrishbhanu and Kirtida. Radha was the eternal love of Lord Krishna, both of them are inseparable entities. The birthday of Radha is a day of celebration for all the Hindus as Radhashtami.
The Birth of Radha
Just like Lord Krishna, Radha also was not Kirtida’s own daughter. She was not from her womb. She found her in the Yamuna river on the Lotus. Radha did not open her eyes for eleven months, she was assumed blind.

Radha: Maa Lakshmi, Maa Sita and Radha

Every being on earth is aware that Lord Krishna was Vishnu’s Avtar but it is not known to many people that Radha was the incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi. Vishnu and Lakshmi were husband – wife before Treta yug but were separated due to Sage Bhrigu’s curse.
In Treta Yug, Lord Vishnu came as Lord Rama and Lakshmi as Maa Sita to reunite but neither did Vishnu get Lakshmi nor did Rama get Sita. The love continued to meet on earth in Dwaparyug. Rama was born as Kanha and Sita as Radha.
The story revolves around times when Kanha was a cowherd (gwala) and Radhi was a milkmaid (gopi). Radha and Krishna fell in love in the most inseparable form. Krishna’s flute became the rhythm of Radha’s heart and Radha ‘s purity owned Kanha’s heart.
Love was pure and eternal. Krishna got married to Rukmani and Radha to Abhimanyu but love was divine for Krishna.
Love between Lakshmi-Vishnu, Ram-Sita, Krishna- Radha was pure but none got it in physical forms. Today 31 August, 2025 is the Birth of this magical and divine Radharani celebrated as Radhashtami
Rituals of Radhashtami
On this auspicious occasion of Radhashtami, the rituals start off with taking a bath at bhram mahurat by the devotees. Then, it is necessary to give a bath to both the idols of Radha Rani and Lord Krishna. The very loved fact is that on Radhashtami, they both are dressed with flowers and it’s the celebration of the divine love of Radhe and Krishna. Puja is then followed by Shringar and the Bhog.
To celebrate, people dance to the rhythm of flute, perform Maharaas to commemorate true love of both the Gods.
